The crazy story of how Aary and I met.
Hi, I’m Katie. I’m not quite sure how to write a blog about my life, but I’m going to give it my best go. I’m a 20 year old girl who honestly has no idea what they're doing with their life. Most of you are here from my social media, which focuses on the fact that my boyfriend and I are from different cultures. I won’t bore you with one giant blog entry about my life story, instead I’ll sprinkle it in within the story of Aary and I’s relationship.
It was in June 2021 that everything in my life changed. I had decided to come to LA to meet with agencies and see if I could envision myself living there. Now, as one does these days, I jumped on to Tinder to see if I could score myself a free dinner and a mediocre date. I came across a picture of a man smoking a cigarette and my first thought was “oh fuck”. If I wrote down on a piece of paper what I was looking for in a man, this dude was exactly it. Dark brown eyes that were sunken in, strong facial features, tan skin, dressed in suits, and had a full beard that was almost black in color. I felt like I had hit the damn golden buzzer from Americas Got Talent. I swiped right and Aary messaged me with the dumbest pickup line that I’ll never forget, “you’re living proof we live in a simulation, nobody can be this pretty without cheat codes”. After talking for a few minutes, we realized our schedules didn’t match up and I was leaving the next day. Nonetheless, we talked every single day. I remember the first time we spoke on the phone, it was for 4 hours and we talked about our love for history, specifically ancient Egypt. It was that phone call that told us both something was different here.
In July, Aary decided to fly out to Chicago to meet me for the first time. Now, this is the only time I will tell you to not follow in my footsteps and that I was an idiot. I let a random man from Tinder fly 2,000 miles to come stay in my apartment for 5 days. Did this turn out to be the best decision of my life? Yes. Was there also a chance I could have been murdered? Very much yes. That weekend I was truly swept off of my feet. We went to the art museum and I tried Omakase for the first time! Aary took me on my very first “proper” date; it was to Steak 48 in downtown Chicago. Being a gentleman is second nature to Aary. He always opens my doors, pulls out my chairs, carries my purse, and carries me when my feet hurt because I wore the heels he told me not to. Right before Aary left my place to go back to Los Angeles, he told me he was in love with me. I may get hate for this, but I didn’t say it back. I had never been loved the way Aary loved me, so I didn’t know what the feeling was. I knew I was madly in love with Aary when I started to want to always be with him, and I never wanted to always be with people. Three weeks later, on my first trip to stay with him in LA, I told him I loved him. From then on, we were madly in love.

Here's a photo from the trip where we met for the first time. Aary and I had gone to a beautiful restaurant in downtown Chicago with one of my good friends. She snapped this photo of us and it shows how in love we were when we met. <3
